This insurance covers the risks of mortality of stock held on the farm site. This insurance covers the costs of production and does not insure against loss of profits, market price or business interruption. Within the scope of stock insurance, there are multiple forms: All Risks Wording, Named Perils, and Index coverage.
Also, a type of mortality coverage can be offered for exotic aquatic and even terrestrial specimens, particularly for
commercial public attractions and larger private collections, with an option to cover resulting interruption of business.
Live fish transits
Biomass insurance can be extended to cover the risk of stock mortality while in transit between farm sites, or from
hatcheries. It can cover anywhere from egg stage through to harvest size animals. Transit cover is typically only offered
as an extension of the biomass policy; however, independent coverage for transport of exotics such as any of the large
marine mammals, aquarium specimen, terrestrial animals etc is available and also can include pre and post transit
quarantine plus associated disease re-testing if relevant on international transits.
